An Age Friendly event is coming up on April 25th at the Creekside Seniors Centre starting at 1:30pm. Tera Grady, Supervisor of Solid Waste Management with the Cariboo Regional District, along with Oliver Berger with the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society, will be joining us. There will be information and demonstrations about what is permitted and what is considered contamination for household recyclables both in the Cariboo Regional District AND the District of 100 Mile House. There will also be some time for questions and answers related to composting.Remember, as always, the event is FREE, there will be light refreshments available and EVERYONE is welcome to attend. Businesses, be prepared for volunteers to visit your business this day. The South Cariboo Rec Centre is gearing up for their best Cariboo Women’s Fair! The event is on May 3rd and 4th. Friday night is lady’s night only wine and cheese party from 5pm-9pm. Tickets are $10 and only 19 years of age or older! Live entertainment is provided!
On Saturday the vendors look forward to seeing the whole community as the event is open to all! With entertainment, wellness talk and over 50 vendors you won’t want to miss it. The Fair is open 10am to 3pm on the Saturday.
On Saturday May 4th you can attend the 108 Heritage Site GHOST HUNT. Start time is 8pm sharp with registration beginning at 7:30pm. The Ghost Hunts are a fundraiser for the 108 Historical Society and the cost is $20 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Museum House the night of the Investigation. The Age Friendly Society is teaming up with the Alzheimer Society of BC on May 16th at the Creekside Seniors Centre from 1-4pm. This session is for caregivers to help them with Understanding Communication & Behavior, finding ways to decrease the occurrence if behaviors that concern us and responding in supportive ways. The session is free to attend but pre-registration is required by calling 1-800-886-6946.
Business Façade Improvement grant applications are now being accepted for the District of 100 Mile House and the Cariboo regional District. The Façade Grants are a funding initiative from the Northern Development Initiative Trust. This program provides grants to property and business owners to renovate, restore, or redesign retail and commercial building facades and storefronts. There are specific guidelines to both grants. The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the 3rd Annual South Cariboo Summer Festival. The event will be on August 10th and 11th at the South Cariboo Rec Centre and Grounds. There will be a huge kid’s zone, entertainment, trade fair, food vendors, petting zoo and much more. We are really excited to have singer song writer Maddison Olds with her band Bees and the Bare Bones perform at the festival this year. The 55+ BC Games is an annual multi-sport competition that attracts over 3,500 participants from across BC. This years Games will be hosted in Kelowna, taking place September 10th to September 14th.
