On September 18th 2020 at 5:39 AM, 100 Mile House RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion along Back Valley Road near 100 Mile House BC. The occupants reported that at least one male, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a balaclava, entered the residence at that location with a firearm. The three occupants were awakened and encountered a male, who then discharged the firearm at least three times towards the occupants as they ran back into their rooms. The unknown suspect(s) then fled the location, stealing a 2020 Honda Civic belonging to one of the occupants. The occupants then called the Police. While only one male was seen by the occupants, it is believed at least two people were involved given the evidence found at scene.
The very rural residence is located on a large plot of land with several outbuildings. RCMP attended and cleared the property, locating a possible egress route through a wooded area for the suspects to enter the gated property. Police located a large professional Cannabis grow operation on site, which was confirmed to have the appropriate licencing through Health Canada. All three occupants were the caretakers of the operation. Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident. The location was secured overnight and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section (FIS) from Williams Lake attended to process the scene.
One male occupant located at the property was discovered to be an American citizen without proper authorization to be in Canada and, as such, was detained by the Canadian Border Service Agency with assistance by the 100 Mile House RCMP. He was later returned to the United States within a few days by the CBSA.
The Honda Civic was later recovered by RCMP through the good work of our local Community on Patrol volunteers in the Deka Lake area. The vehicle has been processed by FIS and has been returned to the owner.
All of the occupants have been cooperating with Police from the outset of the investigation. 100 Mile House RCMP believe this to be an isolated incident clearly related to the ongoing legal Cannabis growing operation located on the property and, as such, do not believe there is any further risk to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
