Over the weekend of December 9th and 10th, 100 Mile RCMP were able to recover a Dodge pick-up which was reported stolen from the 100 Mile area in November. In addition to the stolen vehicle, a considerable amount of property was recovered from a break-in to a property in the Green Lake area. This led investigators to another seizure of a considerable amount stolen of property which is associated to a number of thefts and break-ins throughout the south Cariboo. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation into all of these incidents is continuing.
On December 13th, 100 Mile RCMP received two complaints relating to the fake bomb threats scam. These scams were sent out Canada-wide and related to an extortion where the recipient of an email was told to pay an amount of money in bitcoin or their place of business would be targeted. On December 13th, while investigating another complaint, 100 Mile RCMP pulled over a vehicle on Highway 97 near the 108 Mile Ranch. The male driver of the vehicle displayed symptoms of liquor consumption. An approved screening device was administered at the scene and the result was a “fail.” A second test was administered and the result was also a “fail.” The driver was issued a 90 day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
On December 14th, Cariboo-Chilcotin Traffic Services attempted to stop a vehicle in a parking lot at the intersection of Highway 97 and 4th Street. The driver of a green Ford Taurus, fled the scene. The plate number was obtained and the vehicle was not pursued. A short time later, the vehicle was located near to where it had initially been sighted. The same male driver was identified operating the vehicle. A number of charges are being recommended to Crown against a 49 year old resident of 100 Mile including 3 counts of criminal driving while prohibited, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and 6 counts of provincial prohibited driving. The male was released from custody with a Court date on February 5th in 100 Mile House. The vehicle was towed and impounded.
CRIME STOPPERS TIPS OF THE WEEK
Sometime overnight of December 11th, unknown culprits stole a 20 inch light bar from a vehicle parked in front of a residence in the 400 block of Cedar Avenue in 100 Mile House.
Sometime overnight of December 15th, unknown culprits damaged the windows of a Jeep Cherokee when it was parked outside a residence on Decker Crescent at Canim Lake.
