BC Wildfire Service plans to burn piles of woody debris on the western slope of Dragon Mountain.
Smoke and flames may be visible from Highway 97 and surrounding communities.
Crews have piled this debris over the past number of weeks as part of an ongoing fuel management project. These piles will be burned to eliminate available fuels in the event of a wildfire.
Burning could begin as soon as Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, and continue periodically until as late as Oct. 31, 2019. Burning will occur only on days when conditions are favourable and will allow for proper venting and quick smoke dissipation. BC Wildfire Service personnel will be on-site and monitoring these fires.
Anyone who lights an open fire must comply with B.C.’s air quality control legislation. The legislation requires individuals to check local venting prior to lighting a fire and ensure that conditions are favourable for burning.
