The Williams Lake Fire Department responded to a structural fire at Diamonds & Dust Entertainment Lounge, 84 Oliver Street, at approximately 5:30 am on September 20th, 2019 after receiving reports of smoke rising from the roof.

A total of 28 fire personnel from the Williams Lake Fire Department were on scene, along with the support of 9 personnel from the 150 Mile Fire Department and 6 personnel from the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department. The fire was deemed under control at around 12:00 pm.

“I’m very proud of the work and efforts put in by all of our firefighters, most of them have been here since the early morning and worked tirelessly to make sure we mitigated as much damage to the area as possible,” said Fire Chief Erick Peterson. “Unfortunately, both Diamonds & Dust and New World Cafe were lost, however, we were able to save the rest of the block.”

Due to the location of the fire, the Williams Lake Fire Department had to deploy the use of a heavy digger to demolish some of the destroyed building to allow the firefighters to extinguish the fire. There is no determined cause of the fire at this time; however, the Williams Lake Fire Department will be working closely with the Williams Lake RCMP on a full investigation. During the investigation residents will notice that the affected section of Oliver Street may be closed to the public until completed. The City of Williams Lake would like to thank the community for its support of all the firefighters who worked diligently to extinguish the blaze.

During emergencies like this, the Williams Lake Fire Department would like to remind all residents to respect all barricades and please avoid vehicle traffic through the area that could hinder the efforts of emergency responders.
