On January 27th 2021, 100 Mile House RCMP responded to a check well being in the 5000 block of Kallum Drive in 108 Mile Ranch BC. The complainant, a family member of the person Police would be checking on, was concerned due to the knowledge that the 61 year old local man would not go to the hospital and had an injury to look after which the complainant felt he was neglecting. RCMP attended and checked on the man, who confirmed he looking after things himself and needed no assistance at that point. Police left the man at home in his own care as he was not a danger to himself or others and appeared healthy. While we don’t normally mention these type of events, they are very common in the local area. In January 2021 alone, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to 18 calls for service related to similar events of “Check Well Being” and we have also attended 24 Mental Health related events during the same period. These are fairly consistent numbers for what we attend to in a normal month. RCMP will continue to support our community clients and partners in the area to ensure public safety. On January 29th 2021 at 03:15 AM, 100 Mile House RCMP were on patrol when the officer observed an older motor home departing an address in the 400 block of Cedar Ave in 100 Mile House BC. The vehicle was known to be uninsured and also the registered owner was known to not have a driver’s licence. The vehicle was stopped safely and the owner was found operating the vehicle. A search of the driver subsequent to arrest for no insurance located a small amount of suspected Crystal Meth on his person, resulting in the vehicle being searched incidental after locating a controlled substance – the suspected Crystal Meth. No other obvious items of criminality were located during the search. The vehicle was seized and impounded. The driver was released at scene with a mountain of paperwork for various offences. The investigation is ongoing.

 

On January 29th 2021 starting at 6:00 PM, BC Highway Patrol (100 Mile House RCMP), along with local Frontline Policing, Crime Reduction Unit and Provincial Support Team members conduced a Joint Force Operation in the 100 Mile House RCMP Detachment area. Several provincial violation tickets were issued and impaired investigations involving alcohol and drugs were completed. These events have been noted before and will continue on a monthly basis, at minimum, in our area. The file is concluded.

 

On January 30th 2021 at 9:18 PM, BC Highway Patrol (100 Mile House RCMP) was conducting patrols in the area of 103 Mile BC when the officer observed a vehicle with no front plate and a burnt out headlight, so he conducted a vehicle stop. Signs of indicia included indications the woman driver may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A Sobriety Field Test was completed and the woman was thereafter arrested for impaired driving by drug. A Drug Recognition Expert attended and reasonable grounds were formed to believe the driver was under the influence of drugs. The driver was issued a 24 hour driving suspension and a violation ticket. Charges will be forwarded for Crown Counsel to approve for impaired driving. The investigation is ongoing.

 

On January 31st 2021 at 1140 AM, 100 Mile House RCMP were notified of a church gathering in the 5400 block of Tatton Station Road. 100 Mile House RCMP attended, collected evidence related to an offence under the Emergency Program Act of BC, then attended to other events. This investigation is ongoing. As indicated previously, the persons responsible for the ongoing church gatherings will be served with Offence Act notices. 100 Mile House RCMP have been working closely with our RCMP partners and other agencies to ensure enforcement of the Public Health Orders is being completed. The investigation is ongoing.

 

On January 31st at 11:26 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP was called to a reported collision in the 6400 block of Lambley Road in 100 Mile House BC. The anonymous complainant advised the vehicle was in a pond, fully submerged. BC Ambulance arrived on scene first, locating two local women near a vehicle that was stuck in a snow bank at that location with little damage to the vehicle, and no pond near there or vehicle being submerged. RCMP arrived on scene and began their investigation. Both women stated a third person, an unidentified man, was driving. The investigator found no evidence or information at scene that supported this information. During this time, one of the women attempted to leave on foot. At this point,  the other woman – identified as the registered owner – stated the woman walking away was the driver and there was no male. Both were suspected to be impaired by alcohol. A very short drive later, the driver was detained for further investigation of impaired driving and provided a FAIL sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). With no prior history, the driver was provided an opportunity for a second test on a different ASD, which resulted in another fail. The driver was served a 90 day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The investigation is concluded.

 

On February 1st 2021 at 1:12 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to a seasonal property in the 4700 block of Caverly Road near Lac La Hache BC for a report of break and enter. A neighbour reports checking on the residence and finding it rummaged through by the unknown suspects. It appeared that two suspects came from the roadway and pried open a window, stealing a television, a flare gun and possible other items from the residence and outbuildings. RCMP completed their investigation, seizing items for further forensic examination. The investigation is ongoing.
