On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, Clinton RCMP received a report of two people allegedly attempting to steal a truck from the 1700 Block of Loon Lake Road in Loon Lake. When the suspects were confronted, a shot was fired from an occupant of the truck. The truck fled the scene and allegedly broke into a residence in the 400 Block of Loon Lake Road.
Clinton RCMP were called and immediately responded and learned that the vehicle, later confirmed to be stolen, was northbound and not stopping for police. In keeping with public safety, the stolen vehicle was not pursued further after reaching speeds in excess of 120 kms/hour. Ashcroft, RCMP, Provincial Support Team, Central Interior Traffic Services, 100 Mile House RCMP and Williams Lake RCMP were engaged to assist.
At approximately 10:50 AM, the vehicle was spotted heading past the 70 Mile store, northbound on Highway 97. A spike belt was successfully deployed by the 100 Mile House RCMP near 93 Mile however the vehicle continued to travel north.
At 11:45 AM, two people, and adult man and woman, were arrested and remain in custody. There were no injuries to anyone involved or to the general public on the highway.
BC Conservation Service from 100 Mile and Commercial Vehicle Inspectors out of 100 Mile House also assisted in the investigation. More information may be released as it becomes available.
As the investigation continues, support units are working with the 100 Mile House RCMP in a ground search for evidence in Kokanee Bay and 145 Mile.

100 Mile House RCMP wishes to advise the public that South Cariboo Search and Rescue will be continuing to assist the RCMP today starting at 08:30 AM with an article search along Highway 97 north of Lac La Hache from the Canco Service Station at Kokanee Bay to 2 km north of Knife Road south of 150 Mile House BC. This assistance is being completed as a result of the investigation which occurred yesterday across multiple jurisdictions, from Clinton to the location near Knife Road. Please use caution when travelling in those areas as search crews will be walking along the edges of the highway and looking into the ditch areas. If you have any information regarding the events from yesterday, please contact the police agency in the jurisdiction involved or contact the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456 to speak with an officer.
