On December 29th 2020 at 6:03 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP responded to a reported assault and a breach of the Covid-19 Related Measures Act (CRMA) at the Lone Butte General Store located along Hwy 24 in Lone Butte BC. Information was received that a male had attended the store without wearing the required face mask as per CRMA. The male had been provided a mask by the store to wear inside, which he refused to wear. The male was then told to leave the store. Once outside the store, the male grabbed a piece of lumber, which the store manager believed would be used to damage the property, so the store manager grabbed it back from the male. At this point, the male then struck the store manager in the face with a closed fist and kicked the glass front door, shattering it. The male then left the scene. The store manager suffered minor injuries from the assault. The manager then called Police.
As sometimes happens in these cases, the store manager and the male involved came to agreement with Police assistance at the request of the store manager, who did not want to charge the male with criminal code offences. The male, now wearing a mask, came to the store with an RCMP officer to apologize and arrange to take care of the door damage. The male was served a CRMA violation offence ticket for failing to wear a mask in an indoor public space and for abusive behaviour in an indoor public space totalling $460 Cdn funds. He was also banned from the store civilly. The male cannot be identified as he was not formally charged with a Criminal Code offence. The investigation has now been concluded.
Mischief/Graffiti file:
On December 30th 2020 at 1:28 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP were notified of graffiti located in behind store buildings in the 300 block of Birch Ave in 100 Mile House BC. The large graffiti uses the word “Saiko” and spreads over a large portion of the building in black paint lettering. It is unknown who or what is being referred to by the word and there appears to be many possible meanings after a brief online search was completed by the investigator. The method of application is unique and not usual in most graffiti applications. 100 Mile House RCMP are still investigating the reported incident.
