Following the Province of British Columbia’s announcement of Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP) grant funding, Council supported eight different projects, as well as submitting a City of Williams Lake application. Out of the nine applications, four were successful. With a total project value of $1.35 million, this has a direct positive impact on our local community.
The selected local projects were:
City of Williams Lake – Williams Creek and River Valley shared multi-user boardwalk Value $550,000 (Community Economic Resilience Stream)
Williams Lake Trail Riders Association – Stable and Riding Arena Re-Roofing Value $109,803 (Community Economic Resilience Stream) Williams Lake Cycling Club – Trail upgrade project; construction of downhill trail and improvements to uphill route on Fox Mountain trail network
Value $253,085 (Rural Economic Recovery Stream)
Potato House Sustainable Community Society – Potato House Heritage Restoration and Rehabilitation Value: $440,000 (Unique Heritage Infrastructure Program)

“City of Williams Lake Council and staff were very pleased to see the success of a City project and several non-profit organizations in the area who were recipients of funds towards infrastructure improvement projects,” said Mayor Walt Cobb. “The city and region will see many economic benefits from these Provincial grant approvals, and we
thank the Province for its investment in our community.”

Part of the evaluation criteria was demonstration of job creation as part of the provincial economic recovery plan, StrongerBC. The approved projects are intended to create immediate job opportunities.
The City commends all of the organizations that submitted applications for their projects. City staff remain committed to connecting with our local non-profit groups to find other avenues of funding for their proposals.
