The District of 100 Mile House is pleased to announce that funding has been received to engage in a Community Economic Development Rapid Needs Assessment and Economic Development Plan Update project funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. Through the Labour Market Partnership Program, the District of 100 Mile House was able to access needed funds to complete these projects.
“Our community continues to drive forward” says Mitch Campsall, Mayor of the District of 100 Mile House. “Over the past two years we have completed a number of projects that have made our community an ever better place to live. We want to ensure that our future directions upgrade and expand our local capacity and support investment opportunities.”
There are two main goals of this funding. One is to provide a “Rapid Needs Assessment” that will identify local economic impacts, core community assets, perform a labour market gap analysis and identify short- and longterm opportunities for diversifying employment drivers and sustainable industry development. Secondly, the analysis and other tools will be used to review and adjust the current Economic Development plan with the long-term goal of developing approaches and diversification opportunities.
“Our government understands the impact that the downturn in forestry is having on communities like 100 Mile House, which is why we opened a job placement coordination for forestry workers there and why we’re pleased to support the district in conducting a rapid needs assessment,” said Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. “Through this Community and Employer Partnership project, the District of 100 Mile House will be able to identify local business development opportunities and build a solid economic development plan for the region going forward.”
“These two project components will ultimately make for a more resilient economic environment in the community” explains Campsall, “supporting the local business community and building increased employment opportunities for workers in 100 Mile House. We appreciate the Government of Canada’s and the Province of British Columbia’s commitment to fund priorities that we have identified.”
Both projects are expected to be complete in February 2021
