The District of 100 Mile House has been approved for $20,000 to offer the Business Facade Improvement Program again in 2021.  This marks the eighth year the District has been extended the grant from Northern Development Initiative Trust.

The Business Façade Improvement Program provides grant funding to businesses to improve retail and commercial building facades in 100 Mile House.  By supporting visual improvements to buildings, the program enhances the economic viability and vibrancy of the community.  It also promotes private sector investment and stimulates the local economy.  Business areas can become more appealing to customers and façade improvements increase the marketability of commercial storefronts.

The District of 100 Mile House will provide a 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum of $5,000 per eligible building.  Some of the eligible façade improvements may include: new exterior lighting, architectural features, façade painting, siding, entrances, doorways, and awnings.  Accessibility improvements were added last year.  Use of log and timber accents is encouraged.

Since it was initiated in 2014, fourteen (14) businesses have taken advantage of the program and $60,046 in grant funding has been reimbursed to these businesses for façade improvements.  The total value of these projects is nearly $190,861 so private sector investment has been significant.

“The Business Façade Improvement Program strengthens local business, which keeps money in our local economy,” says Mayor Mitch Campsall.  “We thank Northern Development Initiative Trust for their continued support in 100 Mile House, and we look forward to expending all the available grant funds in 2021 to support local business.”

Director of Economic Development & Planning, Joanne Doddridge, says the application process is easy, approvals can be done fairly quickly, and reimbursement is not complicated.  Applications are considered on a first come – first served basis until all the funding is allocated.  Project work should not begin until the project is approved. Local businesses are encouraged to apply early.

“The Business Façade program is an excellent opportunity for local businesses to spruce up their storefronts and add extra appeal for customers. It’s great to see communities like 100 Mile House take advantage of this program every year.” Joel McKay, CEO, Northern Development Initiative Trust
