A huge thank you to everyone that came out to support the Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena on Sunday. You all helped to raise over $3900!! Special thanks to 100 Mile Old Stars, High Test Logging, Ken Campbell (Excel Fire & Water Restoration) and everyone that paid to play all day. Plus, all the volunteers that keep the arena operating everyday.
It wasn’t looking good for the old War Memorial Arena that was disassembled in Williams Lake in the late 1980’s then moved to Lac La Hache where it has become a huge asset to the south Cariboo hockey community. During the 2007 season the ice plant was shut down because the ammonia ice making plant started to leak. The little community of Lac la Hache couldn’t afford to replace it.
But miracles do happen when you least expect them. Two local area families stepped up to make sure the arena continued as the second sheet of ice in the South Cariboo. Owners of
DWB Forestry Consulting Service kick in $40,000.00 and Carina Crawford from Easy-Go Ranch (Patchwork Ranch) donated $200,000.00!
A new environmentally friendly ice plant was purchased and installed in 2008. The Lac La Hache Community Club continues to run the arena to this day with dedicated volunteers. There’s always lots of work to be done to keep the arena operating and new volunteers are always welcomed.
Thank you for all the support for our arena. RF
