On March 8th 2021 at 2:06 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to an apartment in the 400 block of Cedar Avenue for a report of possible recovered stolen mail. The complainant, who works for a local government agency, was checking on a client. The witness observed what appeared to be stolen mail in the apartment and contacted Police. RCMP investigated and, after taking a number of statements with the mail recipients, wrote a search warrant for the apartment which completed last evening. A large amount of stolen mail was recovered. Police believe it is associated to a break in to several mail boxes last week at the 100 Mile House Canada Post Office. We will be working with Canada Post to return those items once our investigation is furthered by forensic analysis. Personal mail and other articles associated to the renter of the apartment were also located. The suspect, a local 28 year old Caucasian male known to Police, is being sought for the theft and possession of stolen property. He cannot be named by Police, as there have been no criminal charges approved yet by Crown Counsel.
As an indicator to the public as to the scope and range of criminals which travel through our area, the stolen yard truck from West Fraser Mill in 100 Mile House listed on previous media releases was recovered in another police jurisdiction. A search of that vehicle located a few pieces of stolen mail from the 108 Mile Ranch. 100 Mile House RCMP continue to work with Canada Post and their security arm to better protect our community mail, using tagged items and discreet security cameras within undesignated mail boxes across our region as investigative tools to capture criminal activity. Police appreciate the assistance of the public in these matters.
