On April 15th 2021 at 7:07 PM, 100 Mile House RCMP attended to a reported fight in progress in the 4800 block of Eagle Avenue in Lac La Hache BC.
It was reported by multiple witnesses that a group of people had a short fight, but then a man had pulled out bear spray and sprayed two victims and also fired what was considered to be some type of flare or bear banger at the victims.
When Police arrived, the victims had fled back to their residence and the suspects had returned to their own home.
The victims were confirmed to be ok and provided information related to an offence of assault with a weapon, which was confirmed by independent witnesses on scene.
Witnesses described a sound similar to a firearm, but also reported seeing a streaking object arc while it travelled away from the fight location.
The suspects refused to come out and be safely arrested. The man and woman continued to engage with Police by yelling at them and making hand gestures through windows and a doorway at the residence.
Police set up containment and removed one family from an adjacent property due to possible access along the attic by the suspect. Consistent efforts were made over loud hailer and by Police Radio dispatchers to get the suspects to safely leave the residence, with no success. At that point, a Feeney warrant, a warrant sought specifically to enter a dwelling house to arrest a person named in the warrant, was sought to gain entry to the suspect residence through the Judicial Justice Centre.
The warrant to enter arrest the suspect, a 28 year old Caucasian man known to Police, was granted immediately. An entry plan was completed, resulting in the successful arrest of the man without incident. While still in the residence, further information was brought forward by witnesses, which resulted in a female suspect being arrested as well.
The female suspect, a 50 year old Caucasian woman known to Police, was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the prior altercation with the victims.
Both subjects were then lodged in cells for Police to further their investigation, which is ongoing. RCMP believe this to be a localized event which is not expected to result in further risk to the public at this time.
